Rev. Kent Doss is the minister of the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Laguna Beach. You can read his sermons, newsletters and other thoughts on his blog Chalice Notes (www.chalicenotes.blogspot.com) He was ordained and installed as our settled minister in 2009.

Kent leads most of our Sunday morning worship services, and teaches a series of adult religious education classes throughout the year. Kent maintains office hours on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons. He is available for pastoral care and other church business any time, but tries to take Friday and Saturday as a day for writing and a day for rest. Before coming to serve our church, Kent was an Intern Minister at the Orange Coast UU Church in Costa Mesa. He came to Orange County from Denver CO where he attended Iliff School of Theology. In June 2007 Kent graduated with distinction from Iliff School of Theology with a Master of Divinity with a concentration in Justice and Peace Studies. At the time of graduation Kent also received the Fellowship Seminarian Award, presented annually to a graduating student who displays outstanding leadership in worship arts, and he was recognized as Iliff School of Theology’s Student of the Year for 2007 for his academic achievements and campus leadership.

Kent spent much of 2002 in West Africa as a volunteer with the Peace Corps. While in service, Kent lived in a village of around 500 people. The focus of his work was educating about clean drinking water and sanitation issues. The Peace Corps gave Kent a new perspective on leadership. He found that real community change occurs best when a leader is truly embedded in the community. Leadership is about relationships.

As social justices has always been a focus of his personal and professional life, he studied Political Science at the University of Oklahoma prior to seminary. Kent Doss grew up in one of the largest UU churches in the country in Tulsa Oklahoma.
